🙈 Welcome to The Rebuild of TDN, V5

A rebuild of tarasis.net a domain I've had since 2002. It has nearly always been a blog or landing page; using Wordpress, Jeykll, Eleventy, and now Astro (V5 beta).

I considered a straight html/css page, but with duplicated elements (like blog pages), a desire to make it a more personal site inspired by two talks by Sophie Koonin, I decided to have a play with Astro rather than Eleventy and play with modern CSS features. The talks I mentioned:

• "Sophie Koonin - Building websites like it’s 1999… in 2022" - State of the Browser
• "Sophie Koonin – This Website Is under Construction, a Love Letter to the Personal Website" – btconf

Who am I? Robert McGovern. 48yo confused man who is struggling to work, dealing with depression, and currently struggling with alcoholism. So as part of my process of recovery I am going to be working on a rebuild of this site, and "do it in public". Although not streamed :)

I've made some concious choices that I want to:

• Multi theme switcher
• Use YAML rather than JSON for some data files
• While I can use remapping of frontmatter on older blog posts, I am going to redo some of frontmatter
• The blog will not just be about tech stuff, it will include notes, and stuff about health, depression alcoholism and other struggles
• Explore pulling in data from Spotify and other APIs, so the page reflects more me
• I want to have a /now page.
• Link to / list work I've done
• Bring in fav photos, or most recent ones
